Certified Personal Trainer, Founder
I was born and raised in Los Angeles before moving to Arizona for high school. I’ve always been physically active – I started cycling in high school – and started weight training when I was 21. I’m a bit of a nerd, so I did a ton of research to understand how different things would impact my body. I was my own science experiment. I would look at the weight training status quo, hold it up to the light, pull it apart and put it back together again in a way that I thought was better and made more sense for my body. Even then, I never thought weight training should be one size fits all.
I eventually joined the service and got into training others when I became the PT instructor for my Army unit. That turned out to be life-changing. I discovered I enjoyed helping my platoon mates who had never been active find their own personal physical groove. I was the antithesis of the barking drill sergeant you see in the movies — I loved coaching and motivating people 1:1 to find their sweet spot. I was interested in understanding the unique way they needed (and wanted) to be motivated. That remains the foundation of my personal training style today.
Once out of the service, I became a personal trainer at a local gym and took to it like a fish to water. I was hooked. For me, personal training is an extension of who I am as a person. I try to have a positive impact on the people I meet every day. Personal training is a way to share my passion for being physically active and fit with my clients in a way that makes their lives better. To me, it’s a lot more complex and holistic than just building muscles. I’ve been doing this for over 15 years.
In the world of fitness, when it comes to nutrition, few people would consider the vegan diet a viable and sustainable option to build and retain muscle mass. In fact, there are a lot of myths circulating, i.e. vegans don’t get enough protein, therefore, aren’t as strong and don’t have as much energy. Well, I am living proof of precisely the opposite. I have been a personal trainer for over fifteen years, and a vegan for about three — I have never felt stronger and more energized than ever. Seriously. At nearly fifty years old, I just competed in a Ragnar Ultra Marathon and crushed it! As an added bonus, my recovery time is better than it was in my twenties!
While a vegan diet isn’t for everyone, it’s been incredibly successful for me. So if you have questions or are curious about exploring a vegan diet, I would be happy to help! Just shoot me an email!
